St. Mary’s Berrow is often known as “The Church on the Dunes” as the building nestles beautifully on the edge of the surrounding beach and golf course, the dunes themselves being designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). St. Mary’s dates back to the 13th Century and has artefacts in the church from that period which were discovered when work was carried out in the graveyard some years ago.
The church is normally open every day throughout the year and there are many encouraging entries in the visitors’ book commenting on the warm and friendly atmosphere. A church room is on site offering toilets and kitchen which is used by groups within the village as well as for church events. There is a car park and additional parking around the entrance to the church grounds.
St Mary’s has been reordered to include a ramp for access into the church, and flexible seating to allow for a wider range of events to be held inside.
St Mary’s is a Fairtrade Church. For more information about what this means, please click here.
